I have no car

SO, there I was, feeling depressed about searching for a job when I get three calls in one day about setting up interviews. I do so. I feel good, as I now have a faint glimmer of hope.
Then I get up this morning at 7:00 to drive out to rural MAryland for an interview. WHen the lady in front of me comes to a screeching halt. I slam on the breaks, run into the back of her, she rolls forward, bumps the 19 year old kid in front of her, my airbag goes off, then I get hit by the guy behind me. The cops show up, take reports, we all fill out paperwork. Both my bumbers are smashed in, as are my head and tail lights, I'm leaking antifreeze on the road, and I'm in shock. My Jeep was definitely the worst damaged of the four cars involved, and three of them had to get towed. Mine, the guy behind me, whose front end was smashed in, and the lady in front of me, whose car was more or less ok, but she went to the hosital, just to make sure she was okay, so there was nobody to drive it.
I got a ride home in a police car.
I called Geico to report everything, they said it would probably be a total loss since the car is now more than 10 years old, but they'd gtet back to me. I the called my mother to let her know what had happened. THen I called my brother. THen I called Grandma, because I was gonna go over there after the interview, since I was out that way already, and my uncle Tommy and cousin Lindsay are in town after dropping John off at the Naval Academy in Annapolis. I just contacted the people at SCORE! to let them know why I didn't show up this morning.
So now, I have no car. But I'm okay (I think). I'm gonna make an appointment with my chiropractor, since I needed one anyway, but now my back and neck are probably more messed up than ever. Oh, and I'm still unemployed. But at least it was near home, instead of out in the middle of nowhere in Maryland, where I wouldn't have known what to do.

More of the job searching

Have applied to 28 different jobs in the last week and a half. Three have gotten back to me saying I'm not qualified. I have a phone interview in 45 minutes with a person from SCORE! Educational Centers. They're looking for an "Assistant Director".
I'm not sure it's really what I want to be doing. It sounds like a lot of business-type stuff, which I'm not that good at, or even interested in, but it would be good to get that experience. And I guess I would find out very quickly if education is a field I want to be in at all, since I'm not sure about that right now.
But then, I'm not sure about anything at this point.

Okay. So, I just set up my dial-up internet access with one of those AOL CDs. Yes, I hate them, too. But, theoretically, I can get my money back within 90 days, and I'm hoping Luis can set up some way to get us high-speed before then.

In other news, spent a week visiting Jess. It was fun. Our 2 year anniversary was back on the 1st, so it was good to get together with her. But I do need to be looking for a job, as my entire family tells me. And I am. I've applied to 10 places already, and been rejected by two of them.

It's gonna be a long summer of this kind of thing. Right now I just feel anxious about getting it done and finding something because I'm living off limited funds, and stuff is costing more than expected. $300 for new contacts and an eye exam. $285 for new lenses in my glasses. And I still need to get to the dentist, and afford food and rent, plus 1/3 of the townhouse's utilities. The sooner I find something, the better.

Good news, everyone!

Ok. I know it's been a whil, and I still have Alaska stuff to blog about, but I'll get to that later (like once I figure out how to download pictures from my digital camera. The software refuses to install). Right now, the good news is this: I found a place to live! It's a townhouse in Burke, VA. I'll have the master bedroom w/ my own bathroom and big closets. It's shared with two other people, one of whom is the owner's son. More later, aftetr I get moved in and buy myself a bed and furniture and stuff.
