back at school!

Got back to Allegheny yesterday and got moved into the new Writers' House (314 Loomis) despite not being able to pick up my keys. Thankfully, Crystal (Kristal? Cristyl? Too many ways to spell girls' names, dammit) had been there all month anyway, so I had no trouble getting in. Picked up my keys today and got a lecture about how I was suposed to call ahead to get them early, and I'd better not get into trouble.
In any case, while unpacking I was unable to find a few neccesary things... like sheets. ANd some of my towels. I suspect they remain at my grandparents' in Erie.
THankfully, I was up at the Wattsburg Fair today for my Uncle Jimmy's birthday, and my parent's brought me a set of sheets. I can go look for mine when I go up to Erie tomorrow night. YEs, I'm running all over the place these days, aren't I?

THe new house is really nice, and has a huge kitchen, and while it isn't as big as the old Writers' HOuse, it is in much better condition. Guess that's what happens when the school isn't lanning to knock it down; they actually take care of the place.

update from Chautauqua

Well then. Done a lot since last time I blogged.
I was in Fairfax for a few days last week, and got to see a bunch of people, which was nice.
I drove down to St. Mary's College of MAryland Friday morning to visit Sara Bodde, and ended up helping her move from one apartment to another. Not a real problem as it was just across a field on campus. Met her boyfriend too, which I'd been looking forward to. ENded up crashing on her futon, as I didn't want to fight the rush-hour traffic back to VIrginia that night. All made worse by the Wilson Bridge being closed for repairs (well, not closed, but down to one lane, so itmay as well be closed.) Oh, and I got a speeding ticket on the way down there. Oops.
After driving back Saturday morning and packing my stuff out of my uncle's house (I was house-sitting while they were on vacation) I drove over into Fairfax to visit with Katie Buoni. Sunday was her birthday, and I had thought I was going to be around for it, but oops again, I can't read a calander apparently. So I was glad to see her and wish her a happy birthday a little early. I've got something I'm going to mail to her now, too so she'll get a present from me albeit late. Met her boyfriend, too.
Drove out to Grandma's later that day, and spent the night there, where I met my parents. My mother had driven down with me, but spent ther time in Baltimore at a writers' conference. My father had arrived from Tel Aviv Friday morning. We left Sunday morning and drove up here to Chautauqua, where we'll spend two weeks in the condo my grandparents time-share. I'm taking some neat classes. I'm learning to knit this week, as well as taking a chess class, and next week I have two literature classes, one on short stories, the other on Grimm's Fairy Tales.
I currently have only limited internet access, as the condo has no computer, and the ones in the library (like the one I'm using now) fill up quickly and this was the earliest half-hour spot I could get when I came in on Monday to look.
In any case, I'm having a good time, and Pop-Pop seems to be doing okay for now. He's going through chemo again this week, so he's been pretty weak, but we're going over to the farm later so dad can show all his slides from Greece and Israel.
School starts again on the 1st of Sept., and I'm gonna move into the NEW Writer's House (down on Loomis Street somewhere) on the 28th, and hopefully be able to get a single on my Senior status since I will be comping this year and will need the privacy of not being interuppted.

DMV

So yeah... I spent most of this morning taking care of my car. I got up at 7:45, after my alarm didn't go off at 7:15, and took the car in to get the STate Inspection. Afdtyer driving out to the DMV, I was reminded I needed an Emissions Inspection, which I knew, but had forgotten, so I felt stupid and went back and got that done, too. Lots of waiting in line. THen it was back to the DMV, where I was told at the drive-through window I'd need to go inside and fill out a form before they'd give me the little stickers to register my (parents) car. More waiting, as well as confusion about what I should write on the form. But it all got done. And on an empty stomach and 4 hours of sleep, no less.

BAck in the USA

Well, I got in early Thursday morning after a long and obnoxious flight with several small children. At least I got to see Madagascar. It was amusing, but not something I would have paid to see.
In any case, after getting off the plane in Newark, my ears were still bothering me. 'OK', I said, 'this should go away by the time I get to Erie.' It didn't. It still hasn't. I tried everything I could think of, thern finally got Mom to take me into the Emergency Room this morning. (I'm up at the Farm with Nana and Pop-pop, and I'm told that's the only real place you can go for any kind of medical attention) In any case, they were helpful and gave me a prescription for a nasal spray that seems to be helping. Hopefully, there will be less or no liquid stuck in my ears by the time I get to Fairfax on Tuesday.
Lovely story, isn't it?

Well then.

THey got me on the flight with my mother, so I'm leaving tomorrow night. Kinda nice, as I won't be travelling alone now, but also means I'll miss the poker game my father's got set up for Thursday. Oh well.

It can't be August already. It sure doesn't feel like it. In any case, I leave here on Friday night and get into Erie Saturday morning. My mom is leaving a couple days earlier than previously planned (Wednesday), so I'll be flying solo. Oh well. Did it last time, and I can do it again.
