What sort of a maniac uses copy like "the cheesy snack that smiles back until it bites its head off?" as a sales jingle? Now goldfish make me feel guilty.

I just watched KRON-TV, the San Francisco NBC affiliate, do an entire story on conditions in Pakistan with the caption "Istanbul, Pakistan." Even the anchor said that the reporter was in Istanbul, even though he said repeatedly that he was in Islamabad.

Islamabad is the capital of Pakistan.

Istanbul is, of course, in Turkey.

This morning I attended the funeral of Taketora Ueda, a man I knew only slightly, but liked and admired immensely. Death notices and headstones almost always say that someone was the "beloved" brother, son, or wife of someone else, but I have to say that I can' t think of anyone more beloved than Take. He was one of those people who had an appetite for life. He was a musician, a great swing dancer, a man who never had a bad word for anyone, and someone whose enthusaism for life was infectious. He lit up a room just walking into it, and he made the most passing acquaintance with him memorable. I think 200 of us (in addition to his family) must have shown up for his funeral service, all of us wanting to pay our last respects, and I'm glad I did. He'll be missed.

The rescue worker interviewed in the link below says not to duck UNDER heavy objects during a quake, but to crouch beside them. According to him, people who duck under the objects are invariably crushed.

If it's true, this could feasibly be important - especially to people in 'quake prone areas.
