Line 3: Line 3:
This lesson plan is for the first day of the Intermediate-level course, ["Creative Computer Exploration with Scratch"]. These notes touch on the lesson delivered from the lesson plan ["Intermediate Scratch: Creative Computer Exploration: Day 1"], delivered on May 7, 2008.
Line 5: Line 5:
For this lesson, we need to bring one or more audio recorders or headsets, and the Scratch board. Alex Petrov again volunteered in the classroom.
Line 7: Line 7:
We had one extra student who switched from another class today, I've noted it in my private class list.
Line 8: Line 9:
=== Objectives === The kids seemed very excited to work with the microphone headsets, but we were not able to get the Scratch board working this session. We have enough information to get them working next session, though.
Line 10: Line 11:
 * The students will discuss what they would like to do
 * The students will form teams to work on projects together
 * The students will explore recording sounds to use in Scratch projects
 * The students will learn what the Scratch board can do and how it works
 * The students will start either a name project or another project with a distinct purpose and save it
Today seemed a little unfocused. The 3 groups we had wrote down minimal project plans, and did not seem to be very on-task overall.
Line 16: Line 13:
=== Organizing Design Teams === Almost all the stations are now upgraded to Scratch 1.2.1, there are still a few that are at 1.1, we should fix that before the next class.
Line 18: Line 15:
On the first day, we will discuss what sorts of programs we would like to work on in class. Students will be encouraged to share stories about what they have done with Scratch since the first class. We may look at some of the demos in the new version of Scratch (1.2.1) together to help get some ideas.

The next lesson will include camera work, let the students know that they will be taking pictures in the courtyard. They can bring their own digital cameras if they want on the next day, or bring digital pictures from home.

=== Demonstration ===

 * Show the class the scratch board, explain all its functions
 * Try to hook up the scratch board to a lab computer
 * Show the headsets to the students, see if they can get headsets to record on the lab computers

=== Lab Time ===

For the rest of the lesson, help students get projects started, help with the Scratch Board, and help them record audio as needed.

20 minutes before the end of the class, help kids save their work.
I am glad I revised the lesson plan to remove the camera expedition from the first day, that would have been a bit much. Doing that on Day 2 will probably work better.
