Workshop on Turbulent Drag Reduction in Aeronautics

University of Warwick

15-16 April 2013

Contact: mike.leschziner at imperial.ac.uk; duncan.lockerby at warwick.ac.uk

Turbulent‐drag reduction is viewed by the major Airframe manufacturers as being, potentially, one of the most important contributors to the ACARE Vision Flight Path 2050 target of achieving a 75% reduction in CO2 emissions per passenger‐mile. This has encouraged research on a wide variety of passive and active flow/turbulence‐control methods. While most are recognised as posing formidable engineering challenges, they are, nevertheless, of interest to industrial aerodynamicists, as well as forming a fascinating research area for academics.

This Workshop arises, primarily, from an EPSRC‐EADS‐Airbus‐sponsored project on drag reduction by oscillatory wall motion, involving a collaboration between Imperial College London, the University of Warwick and Cardiff University. However, it offers a welcome opportunity to review the subject of turbulent‐drag reduction on a broader front, mostly within the UK environment.

Attendance is free, but restricted to 30 participants.
