Obviously it's too much to ask that cherished childhood
memories not be be perverted to sell long distance
service. I used to like Donald Duck. Now I change the
channel every time I see his loathsome expectorating
little beak.
I am referring, of course, to the MCI five-cent Sundays
ad featuring Donald Duck and Michael Jordan, which is
actually the better of the three Michael Jordan/Loony Tunes
commercials I can think of. The second one has MJ and
"Taz". For those of you who haven't kept up, "Taz" is
short for the Tazmanian Devil, who was once a famously
bad-tempered cartoon, but who is now lovable with
much improved annunciation.
Which brings up another point: Warner Brothers has
sufficiently perverted all of its characters
that they now insult the original characters. Mel
Blanc's son simply can not do the voices, and even
the way they are animated seems way too slick. Add
the ever-present Michael Jordan, get them all to sing
that horrible "I believe I can fly" song (which by the
way is the biggest sell-out in recent memory, as I
have heard this crap sung in at least 4 totally different ad
campaigns on Television and radio) and the result
is instant channel changing. I'd rather watch Heather
Locklear cum over her hair color than ... okay so that
was a bad example. The point is, all these
commercials blow. They are irritating beyond belief.
If there is a target audience for these commercials
that is actually being reached by them, I reccomend
we find it and put it out of its misery.
Rating: 0 stars, only because I can't give out negative
numbers.
Conclusion: Do not use MCI.
