The casual observer might not notice from watching their commercials
that Aiwa makes car stereos, boom boxes and other electronic equipment,
but in remembering the commercials, you are somehow left with that
impression. This is successful advertising. They somehow managed
to get their idea across without stating it outright, and be more or less
amusing in the process.
Another one bites the dust. In this commercial, a dorky young
guy puts a cd in his car stereo and starts bopping around, much to
the dismay of his older passenger. While he's driving, he waves out the
window to passers by and honks. At the end, the camera pans back to
reveal that he's driving a hearse, and we realize that the song he's
been enjoying is Queen's "Another One Bites the Dust".
Nothing more to add but that this is a funny commercial. It's well done
and as mentioned above, gets it's point across without being annoying.
Rating: 4 Stars
We wonder whether or not we get the second Aiwa commercial. It features
an old man sitting on a recliner, listening to some music while this middle-aged
woman slowly dances around. Near the end we hear and see the scene through
the man's eyes and ears. The woman looks pretty good since she's so
blurry, and the music sounds like it's coming from under water, but the man
then puts on his glasses, seeing her clearly, and motions her toward his lap.
Is this supposed to be implying that the man still loves his wife and likes
watching her dance? Did he prefer the view with his glasses off? It also seems
pretty obvious that the geezer can hardly distinguish between silence and noise,
much less the difference between a cheap stereo and a good one. Finally,
this commercial makes us think about old people having sex, and that doesn't
make me want to buy anything but Tums.
Rating: 2 Stars. Even though it's confusing, it's not particularly annoying.
The last Aiwa commercial has a woman walking down the street, listening
apparantly to a walkman. Every person she sees stops to check out her ass.
Again, this is a rather confusing commercial, but she does have a really nice
ass, and it's not really annoying.
Rating: 3 Stars.
Conclusion: Buy Aiwa. They also have been
mentioned by name as sponsoring Sifl & Olly.
