In an age where commercials tend to lie out their asses and assume (perhaps with too much validity) that the general populace has intelligence equal to a general rock, outpost.com's first commercial (that I've ever seen) has managed to be both tasteless and entertaining without insulting or lying to the average consumer.

In the commercial, a distinguished-looking gentleman states that in order to build brand recognition, outpost.com will fire hampsters out of a cannon through the "o" in Outpost. While explaining it may not make you laugh out loud, the comic potential of hampsters being fired from a cannon is obvious.

This commercial rates cynical.com's highest rating, 5 stars. I'm not sure exactly what this is based on, since I just made it up. Outpost.com reaches it's target audience, apparently people like me, and entertains without bothering to tell you what exactly they do until the very end. It is a successful commercial in that it holds your attention and by the time they tell you what they do (sell computer "stuff") you genuinely want to know. If it ever happens that I scrape together enough money to actually buy some computer stuff, I know where I will go, as should you: outpost.com. That is, of course, assuming that they have what I need at reasonable prices, etc. This is another successful aspect of the commercial: rather than tell you why they are so great, they just point you to the site, assuming that you'll figure out whether it was worth it when you get there.

Conclusion: Buy from outpost.com. (Or at least go check them out).
