Dear all,
I hope I find you all well. Please find below in this email the
advertisement
of my post-doctoral position in fluid dynamics (control of boundary-layer
transition to turbulence).

Could you please forward the attached file to whoever may be interested?
Thanks a lot. Pierre Ricco

*
POSITION IN FLUID DYNAMICS - POST-DOCTORAL RESEARCH ASSOCIATE
*
Department of Mechanical Engineering
The University of Sheffield, United Kingdom

*Research:*
Theoretical and numerical research on control of pre-transitional boundary
layer disturbances induced by free-stream turbulence. The idea is to
develop a wall-bounded actuator to attenuate the growth of the Klebanoff
modes, which are low-frequency fluctuations appearing in transitional
boundary layers because of free-stream vortical disturbances. These modes
have been shown to be responsible for bypass transition and it is therefore
of great importance to reduce their intensity to delay transition and
reduce friction drag. The researcher will join a team of three other
investigators working on wall-bounded flow problems within the Mechanical
Engineering Department, currently ranked 2nd in the United Kingdom.

*Duration:* 12 months, starting on 20 February 2012.

*Education, qualification: *
A PhD degree or equivalent in Mechanical, Aeronautical, Civil, Chemical
Engineering, Applied Mathematics or Physics.

*Knowledge, skills:*
Fluid mechanics; desirable: wall-bounded shear flows. Numerical analysis,
in particular Computational Fluid Dynamics. Excellent programming skills in
C or any other high level language. Advanced mathematical skills (partial
differential equations, perturbation/asymptotic methods).

*Experience:*
Published research in fluid mechanics and/or advanced numerical analysis.
Presentation skills in international conferences. Personal characteristics,
other requirements. Capability to carry out research with minimum
supervision. Self-motivation and passion for research in fluid mechanics.
Excellent communication of research and paper writing skills (in English).
