well everyone,

a couple of days ago i wrote

and now i must apologize to everyone whose mailboxes were graced by this
unresearched flub. many thanks to andy augustine, whose javascript faq i had
downloaded but had not read thoroughly. i have since answered my own question
and will attempt to read up before clogging the list again.
